photography and life

Would you be the same photographer had you started earlier?
Was listening to a podcast a little earlier that got me thinking.

What makes you the photographer you are? Why do you shoot landscapes and I shoot people? It’s all down to personality and I know mine has changed much over the years. I’m now hitting my late 30s and much has happened since I left school. Had I come straight out of school and become a photographer I think my work would have been radically different.
Maybe better, perhaps worse, we’ll never know.

Just had tell you again how much I admire your work and way you share it with all of us. Making us reflect about our own work. thank you Tom.

Because I studied Photography, it took the fun out of it for a few years and I stopped taking photography seriously until about 2 years ago. Im now in my late 20′s and have come back to the subject with a totally different outlook and a desire to really develop my own style.

I’d say life informs and although your started taking pictures late – you were always seeing (differently).

Interesting blog. I don’t think we can really know that. Your life story happens based on your choices (and how others’ choices impact your life), and unless we are in the show Fringe, we can’t know what life would be like had 1 choice been slightly different. Interesting to think about though.

What’s important is enjoying the journey and the moment that is now, and appreciating the growth in your work (which I am obsessed with by the way, lol).

    Continue to inspire Tom. :)

I picked up a camera for the first time nine years ago and fell madly in love with photography. I’m 21 now and I’ve been photographing since that first roll of film.

But I also love music and writing, so I think being able to explore all three throughout my education (with photography being the major focus (no pun intended)) has helped me stay inspired and stay in love. I’m excited to go out into the professional world because I’m still so passionate about it. I realize that makes me incredibly lucky.
